Let Laughter be Your Medicine

Let Laughter be Your Medicine

Anyone who has enjoyed the infectious laughter of the cutest baby will feel the power of endorphins that have been released, especially when they laugh along with this little show stopper …..

Studies by Oxford University found that even though a good belly laugh left you feeling slightly exhausted, it triggers the release of endorphins that promotes feelings of well being. This obviously has an affect on our mind-set because:

How to Recharge Yourself, Physically, Emotionally & Spiritually

How to Recharge Yourself, Physically, Emotionally and Spiritually

Have you ever been through some really hectic or even traumatic times and at the end, you are emotionally and physically drained.   Well, below is something we may have all forgotten to take heed of in our busy lives. We have the psyche of 24/7 and go, go, go.   Maybe a “recharge” would give us renewed vigour to carry on and in the end achieve more because we took the time to stop for a while and regroup.

Wayne Muller shares a simple, yet forgotten, practice to maintain spiritual fitness:  the Sabbath.
Below are excerpts from Wayne Muller’s Sabbath Article.

“We Have Forgotten The Sabbath

Sabbath time is a revolutionary challenge to the violence of overwork, because it honors the necessary wisdom of dormancy. If certain plant species do not lie dormant during winter, the plant begins to die off. Rest is not just a psychological convenience; it is a spiritual and biological necessity. Perhaps this is why, in most spiritual traditions, “Remember the Sabbath” is more than simply a lifestyle suggestion. It is a commandment, an ethical precept as serious as prohibitions against killing, stealing and lying. How can forgetting the Sabbath — forgetting to be restful, sing songs and find nourishment and delight–possibly be morally and socially dangerous? Mindset in Action

Mindset in Action

We have just finished watching a BBC TV series called “The Young Ones”and it was an awesome confirmation of Mindset in Action.   This was not the l980′s series but the 2010 series and a scientific experiment to see if six well known people aged between 76 and 87 would show any improvement in memory, physical flexibility and heart rate etc. by being taken back in time to the 1970s andthinking themselves young“. This 1970s “reality” was achieved by living for a week in a 1970s decorated house, 1970s papers were delivered in the mornings, 1970s music playing in the background and there were 1970s clothes in their wardrobes.

Each person was given a physical and mental test at the beginning and the end of the week long experiment as a measure of any changes.

The change in each of them over the week was amazing to watch and it was backed up by the greatly improved results in physical flexibility and mental sharpness at the end of the week.  Some of contributing factors were: Continue reading “Mindset in Action” »

Amazing, Energizing, Empowering Machu Picchu

Amazing, Energizing, Empowering Machu Picchu

We have just returned from an amazing, energizing, empowering LifePath Destiny Event in Peru – land of the ancient Inca civilization.    We, and fellow colleagues spent most of our time with Shamans (Spiritual Leaders) that took us to ancient Inca ruins near to our base of Cusco and guided us through some of their ceremonies.    There is an incredible healing energy that exists in these ancient sites and it will live with us for a long, long time.

We learnt of the Shamans love and respect for Pacha Mama – Mother Earth – their gratitude for Pacha Mama’s blessings and their affinity with all that Nature offers them.    The Shamans believe it is their mission to spread this message to as many people as possible.

The highlight of the five days was a trip to Machu Picchu and it is all you read about and more.    It is just Continue reading “Amazing, Energizing, Empowering Machu Picchu” »

Achieve Success by Going Outside Your Comfort Zone

Achieve Success by Going Outside Your Comfort Zone

David is a member of Toastmasters and is always thinking about “speaking” subjects and also subjects for the blog.  The phrase “outside your comfort zone” has come up numerous times in our blogs but has never been the subject.

When you stop and think about the many achievements in your life that by now you take for granted – all of them have been achieved by stepping outside your comfort zone.

When a baby takes those first faltering steps, very rarely does the toddler take off straight away.   There are many topplings and we learn our first lesson in persistence. Very soon, success is achieved and we walk.     Walking then becomes a habit and is embedded into our sub-conscious and we do it on automatic pilot.

One of the next big achievements is learning to ride a bike.    Once again, very few of us hopped on a bike and rode off into the sunset!    We all had our grazed knees and wounded pride, but persistence paid off and once the bike riding skill is learned, we never lose it.

Bike riding is the ultimate illustration of confidence – confidence is the main “skill” in riding a bike. Continue reading “Achieve Success by Going Outside Your Comfort Zone” »

A Tip to Make Your Blog More SEO Friendly

A Tip to Make Your Blog More SEO & User FriendlyBlog Clog Image

I had noticed that many blogs only showed the first couple of sentences of their blog and if you were interested in that particular blog you clicked the “Continue Reading” to see the rest of the post.

I read the solution to achieving this in Clifton Hatfield’s blog -”WordPress Excerpt with the More Tag”.

The More Tag is found about two thirds of the way along your WordPress Menu above your content, and looks like a page torn into two separate pieces.

Clifton advises that there is a Plugin that you can use for this, but using the manual button on the menu gives you the choice of where you want the “Continue Reading” to be placed.

I have put an excerpt from his great blog post here: Continue reading “A Tip to Make Your Blog More SEO Friendly” »

Tips to Diffuse Anger

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned” (Buddha)

Definition of Anger: Anger is an emotion.  The physical effects of anger include increased heart rate, blood pressure, and levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline.   Some view anger as part of the fight or flight brain response to the perceived threat of harm. … en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anger

Vibrations and Me

Music is easily understood to be vibrations and there is an unending variety of music.   The amazing variety of  human beings are also made up of vibrations.   This makes it easier to see why we are all have such different tastes in music and why some music will affect some people more deeply than others.

We have just seen the movie “Wagner and Me” narrated by Stephen Fry.    The movie gives an overall background into the composer Richard Wagner’s life and Stephen’s own thoughts and feelings about Wagner and his music.    I love music but draw the line at heavy metal and when it comes to opera, I am not really a Wagner fan – more of a Puccini fan.   I was drawn to the movie because apart from being a Stephen Fry fan, I was intrigued by the situation that the movie presented.
